Katelyn “Katy” Graham was a caring, beautiful, 14 year old girl known for her hugs and smile. Katy had only completed the first week of her freshman year when an ATV accident took her life on August 27, 2004. Katy would have been in the Central graduating class of 2008. She was the loving daughter of Jim and Jeanne Graham of Kankakee, little sister to Ashley of Bonfield, Tyler of Kankakee, and Mary of Cincinnati, Ohio.
All who had the pleasure of knowing Katy, knew she had a passion for life. She was an advocate in the power of love and kindness. Her philosophy of life was to dream big, love deep, enjoy life, and most importantly not to leave anyone out. Katy's big heart, friendly smile, and warm hugs will forever be remembered by her family, friends and community.
The Memorial Race in Katy's honor was held on July 14, 2007 in Clifton's Park. With the overwhelming amount of supporters for Katy and her family, five $1,000 scholarships were proudly awarded at the Central High School's Awards Ceremony on June 2, 2008. The scholarship winners were Nathan Clabby, Laura Elliot, Kelsey Jensen, Tahlia Merkle and Alex Sippel. Katy would have been proud to have her fellow classmates and friends receive the scholarships in her name.
